NCSU student thrilled with dorm makeover

Published: August 10, 2012

An N.C. State University freshman doesn’t have to worry about furnishing her new dorm room; a Greensboro law firm took care of that.

Morgan McNeil, 18, of Granite Falls, won $1,000 worth of dorm goods in Crumley and Roberts’ first Extreme Dorm Makeover contest. Members of the firm’s marketing department arranged the room Wednesday while McNeil went to lunch with her mother and roommate, Katy Lund.

The bounty included multi-colored comforters for McNeil and her roommate, wall decals of black cats and pink daisies, a purple rug with peace signs and a lime-green cushioned chair that folds into a mattress – her favorite item.

“Even though it’s all different colors, it all seems to go together,” McNeil said once she saw her decorated room.

McNeil, a genetics major, is a part of the Women in Science and Engineering learning village in N.C. State’s Lee Residence Hall. She was randomly chosen from about 100 entries in the contest. She could choose $1,000 worth of furnishings from three stores, and she chose all of her items from Walmart because it was the cheapest, she said.

She also received a $200 Target gift card.

Lounging on her favorite chair, McNeil said her room makes her first year of college more exciting.

“I absolutely adore it,” she said. “I can’t wait to live here.”
