Gary L. Evans: Wrong plug-puller

Wrong plug-puller

Looking at the Aug. 15 editorial cartoon by Drew Sheneman, I’m a bit confused. Shouldn’t the person pulling the plug on Medicare be President Obama, not Rep. Paul Ryan? I mean, isn’t it true, Obama is taking $716 billion directly from Medicare to fund his Obamacare?

Isn’t it true, no one over 55 would be affected by any changes proposed by the Ryan plan? Isn’t it true, everyone under 55 would have a choice, either stay on the present Medicare or choose, through a very generous voucher system, their own health care plan? Isn’t it true, the voucher amounts will be means-tested, lower earners getting a higher voucher than higher earners? Isn’t it true, if a person doesn’t use their yearly voucher allotment they receive a tax-exempt refund for the unused amount? Isn’t it true, if a person goes over their voucher allotment the government will pay for a percentage of the overage, amount based on need? Finally, isn’t it true, Obamacare also creates 22 new taxes (including the mandate) to fund itself?

I know this newspaper has rubber-stamped Obamacare. But would it be too much to ask that you read and understand it? Then, like me, you might not understand the editorial cartoon either!
