Four Broughton girls injured in wreck

Four Broughton High School students were seriously injured when the SUV they were in overturned near Roanoke Rapids on Friday night.

Two of the girls were ejected from the vehicle, according to the State Highway Patrol.

Jane Fountain, 18, was airlifted to Pitt Memorial Hospital. Tessa Jones, 17, was airlifted to UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill. Grace Barnard, 17, was taken to WakeMed in Raleigh.

The driver, Anne Crone, 17, was wearing a seat belt, according to the Highway Patrol.

The highway patrol said the accident was still under investigation.
