Appalachian State at East Carolina, noon

A rematch of the 2009 season opener, which ECU won 29-24. The Mountaineers (8-4 in 2011) have lost four straight games to FBS opponents since beating Michigan in 2007.

Fayetteville State at N.C. Central, 6 p.m.

The Eagles, coming off a 2-9 season, get three in-state games, which should appeal to their fans, before MEAC play starts. The Division II Broncos (4-6 in 2011) won their last meeting with NCCU, 33-22 in 2008.

Wingate at St. Augustine’s, 1:30 p.m.

The Falcons, 4-6 a year ago, host Wingate at Durham County Stadium. The Bulldgos, 5-6 last season, are 9-0 all-time against CIAA opponents.
