Four undefeated and highly ranked teams play Friday night in a pair of showdown games.

Top-ranked Garner plays at undefeated Middle Creek (ranked No. 4) while unbeaten Wake Forest-Rolesville (No. 5) travels to undefeated Southeast Raleigh (No. 7).

The matchups are the biggest tests for each of those teams this season.

Wake Forest-Rolesville at Southeast Raleigh

Wake Forest-Rolesville and Southeast Raleigh renewed their series last year with WF-R claiming a come-from-behind 30-27 victory.

The two schools have nearly identical records over the past dozen years. Southeast is 106-55 (65.8 winning percentage) while Wake Forest is 103-63 (62.0). Wake Forest has won 10 or more games in each of the past five seasons. Southeast had a three-year string of 10-or-more wins halted last year by a 9-3 season.

Wake Forest has been one of the most impressive teams in the area with wins against Durham Jordan, 35-6 and stopped at the half by lightning; East Wake, 77-19; and Northern Durham, 42-10. The Cougars are averaging 51.3 points and 336.3 yards rushing, averaging 9.5 yards per rush.

Southeast Raleigh is allowing only 7.7 points per game and just 47 yards on the ground. The Bulldogs have beaten Millbrook, 13-9; Broughton, 42-14; and Enloe, 35-0.

Garner at Middle Creek

The rivalry is a fairly new one between schools 10 miles apart. The two have played only within the past seven years, and the series is rather lopsided, with Garner winning seven of the nine games. All but two of the games have been decided by 15 points or fewer.

Middle Creek’s David Salmon has passed for 571 yards in leading the Mustangs to wins against Northern Durham, 21-7; Southern Durham, 41-26; and Fuquay-Varina, 52-21. The Mustangs, favorites in the Tri-Nine 4-A, are averaging 38 points, 214 yards rushing and 190 passing.

Garner is averaging 46 points behind the running of Raevon Smith (127.7 yards per game) and the passing of Vince Jefferies (173.5 ypg). The Garner defense has been solid in wins against Enloe, 45-6; Athens Drive, 42-7; and Broughton, 51-27.
