DURHAM — A Durham man has been charged with murder after the victim of a shooting that took place last month died over the past weekend, according to police reports.
Ashraf Mwafaq Mubaslat, 39, of Stadium Drive, was arrested and charged Aug. 23 with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury after a shooting that occurred that same day, according to police spokeswoman Kammie Michael. He posted bond on that charge and was released from jail.
The victim, 44-year-old Noel Rivera, of Durham, died over the weekend.
When Mubaslat turned himself in to investigators Tuesday afternoon, the charge against him was upgraded to murder.

Investigators said Rivera and Mubaslat were acquaintances and the shooting was not a random act.
