RALEIGH — Sewage spilled from a sewer main on Glenwood Avenue near Lynn Road on Tuesday, and nearly 90,000 gallons reached a nearby creek, city officials said Wednesday.
The spill was reported at 8:30 a.m. and took most the day to contain. The city expected to complete its cleanup work by 5 p.m. Wednesday.
An estimated 89,700 gallons reached Turkey Creek, which passes under Lynn Road and Glenwood Avenue on its way to Crabtree Creek in Umstead State Park.
City officials said they were not yet sure what caused the overflow, but said it appeared to be the result of a pipe failure.
