DURHAM — Police officers have charged 10 people in connection with a three-week-long drug operation targeting “hot spot” areas in southern Durham.
The operation was conducted during the last three weeks of August to address violent crime by focusing on both street-level drug sales as well as drug sales out of people’s homes, said police spokeswoman Kammie Michael.
Officers recovered 240 Hydrocodone pills, drug paraphernalia and cash from 521-B Barton Street, where they arrested the resident Patrick Randy Smith, 47, and charged him with trafficking in Schedule 1 narcotics, possession of cocaine with to manufacture, sell or deliver within 1,000 feet of a school, two counts of possession of cocaine with the intent to manufacture, sell or deliver, two counts of maintaining a dwelling for drug sales, sale and delivery of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was placed in Durham County jail, his bail set at $1 million.
Officers also discovered illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia at 522 Cecil St., where they arrested Terry Wayne Thompson, 50, on two counts of possession of cocaine with the intent to manufacture, sell or deliver, conspiracy to sell and deliver cocaine, maintaining a dwelling for drug sales and possession of drug paraphernalia. His bail was set at $10,000.
Other arrests included:
• Aaron Fitzgerald Stone, 47, of Orchard Way, charged with possession of cocaine with the intent to manufacture, sell or deliver, sale and delivery of cocaine, conspiracy to sell and deliver cocaine and possession of cocaine within 1,000 feet of a school.
• Raymond Dixon, 43, of Ashe Street, charged with possession of cocaine with the intent to manufacture, sell or deliver, sale and delivery of cocaine, conspiracy to sell cocaine and maintaining a dwelling for drug sales.
• Marsha Bynum, 51, of North Hyde Park Avenue, charged with possession of cocaine with the intent to manufacture, sell or deliver, sale and delivery of cocaine, conspiracy to sell and deliver cocaine, possession of cocaine with the intent to manufacture, sell or deliver within 1,000 feet of a school and possession of drug paraphernalia.
• Wallace Jones, 39, of Sargent Place, who was wanted for possession of cocaine with the intent to manufacture, sell and deliver, sell/deliver cocaine, conspiracy to sell/deliver cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of cocaine with the intent to manufacture, sell or deliver within 1,000 feet of a park.
Investigators are still looking for:
• Nathan Edwards, 17, of Dayton Street, wanted on two counts of possession of marijuana with the intent to manufacture, sell and deliver and two counts of sale and deliver marijuana.
• John Webb, 39, of Barton Street, wanted on two counts each of possession of cocaine with the intent to manufacture, sell or deliver, possession of drug paraphernalia, sale of cocaine, delivery of cocaine, maintaining a dwelling for drug sales and possession of cocaine with the intent to manufacture, sell or deliver within 1,000 feet of a school. He is also wanted for conspiracy to sell cocaine and conspiracy to deliver cocaine.
• Dominique Diaz, 19, of Maple Street, wanted for possession of marijuana with the intent to manufacture, sell or deliver and sale/delivery of marijuana.
• Shanell Alston, 19, of Ridgeway Avenue, is wanted for possession of cocaine with the intent to manufacture, sell or deliver and sale/delivery of cocaine.
