EAST HARTFORD, Conn. — N.C. State needed a win after losing its opener to Tennessee, not style points.

Artistry was definitely at a premium, but N.C. State held on for a 10-7 win over Connecticut after an excruciating 60 minutes of football.

Mike Glennon's 46-yard touchdown pass to Bryan Underwood and a 41-yard field goal by Niklas Sade were N.C. State's only points.

But the defense had three interceptions and made a fourth-down stand on UConn's last gasp to preserve the win and even the Wolfpack's record at 1-1.

After losing its opener to Tennessee, 35-21 in Atlanta last Friday, the Pack really needed to avoid an 0-2 start.

State did enough for that, even though its offense sputtered, giving up five sacks on Mike Glennon, and the Pack couldn't close out an inept UConn offense until the game's final drive.

The Huskies (1-1) got their only touchdown in the fourth quarter after falling behind 10-0. Running back Lyle McCombs had a 43-yard catch to set up his 5-yard touchdown run.

The Huskies couldn't get any further than their own 45-yard line on their final drive. A pass breakup by cornerback David Amerson, who had an interception in the third quarter, sealed the game for the Wolfpack.
