RALEIGH — A state trooper from Nash County was struck and killed by a car this morning while trying to stop the vehicle, the state Highway Patrol reported.
The Highway Patrol said Trooper Bobby G. Demuth and other troopers were deploying stop sticks when he was hit by the suspect's car, which continued a short distance before the driver was taken into custody.
The suspect has been identified as Christopher McCoy Rodgers, 40, of 102 Outterbridge Road, Williamston.
Raleigh police attempted to stop a 1995 Nissan 200SX on U.S. 64 east near Hodge Road at 7:44 this morning, according to the Highway Patrol. The car did not stop and the car was pursued into Nash County.
Demuth was a 12-year veteran stationed in Rocky Mount.
The investigation into the incident is continuing.
