Early morning fire engulfs Durham Boys and Girls Club office

Published: September 9, 2012

— A fire at the administrative office of the John Avery Boys and Girls Club caught fire early Sunday leaving the build 90 percent destroyed, Battalion Chief Andrew Sannipoli said.

Durham firefighters arrived at the office at 511 Grant St. to find the building completely engulfed in flames but managed to get the blaze under control within 10 minutes.

“First we went defensive and then an offense attack,” Sannipoli said.

The fire was completely out in 30 minutes and no one was injured.

The office sits across from the club at 808 E. Pettigrew St.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
