Pride, PAC 6 supremacy at stake Friday when Southern Durham visits Hillside

Published: September 10, 2012

Southern Durham has won 122 games during the past dozen seasons while losing only 41. The Spartans have won or shared eight league titles during that period. They have beaten new rival Durham Hillside in nine of the last 12 games the teams have played.

But Hillside has won the last two meetings and went undefeated to win the state 4A title in 2010 after nipping Southern 13-12 during their regular season meeting.

The two schools are the PAC 6 favorites again this year, helping to set up a big rivalry game Friday night at Hillside.

Neither school has fared well in non-conference games.

Hillside is 2-2 and was outscored 92-34 in its two losses. Southern Durham is 1-3 after its 40-6 win over South Brunswick lat week.

The last four games in the series have been decided by 22 points.

Hillside is led by North Carolina recruits, running back Khris Francis and defensive back Korrin Wiggins. Southern’s offense is centered around sophomore quarterback Kendall Hinton.
