RALEIGH — An assistant principal at Athens Drive High School was injured by a collision with a plate glass window during a lunchroom fight this morning.
The school official was attempting to break up a scuffle between students when he hit the window, according to Raleigh police spokesman Jim Sughrue.
Sughrue did not know whether the assistant principal was thrown or accidentally fell into the window.
“I do know that the window broke and the assistant principal received some cuts and was going to be transported for medical attention, but his injuries were not thought to be serious or life threatening,” Sughrue said.
Wake County schools’ spokeswoman Samiha Khanna identified the assistant principal as Steven Miller, who oversees the school’s freshmen academy program. Miller had cuts to his face, Khanna said.
Miller was treated and released from Rex Hospital, according to hospital spokesman Alan Wolf.
Police are investigating the fight and have not announced any related charges or arrests, Sughrue said.
