HANAHAN, S.C. — The Duke women’s golf team shot a final round 281, good enough for a second place finish a 6-under-par at the Cougar Classic hosted by the College of Charleston. N.C. State shot a 290 to finish in seventh at 6-over and North Carolina tied for ninth at 14-over after shooting a final round 292.
Florida, led by individual winner Camilla Hedberg, won the tournament by six strokes with a final-round 287.
In the individual competition, Duke’s Lindy Duncan finished four shots behind in second place at 9-under for the tournament. Her teammate Ashley Xiao was 2-under to finish tied for 10th.
A pair of North Carolina golfers, Jackie Change and Casey Grice, finished to tournament at even par in an eight-way tie for 14th that included N.C. State’s leading golfer Augusta James.
Field Hockey
North Carolina sophomore defender Samantha Travers and Maryland junior defender Ali McEvoy have been named the ACC Players of the Week, the conference announced.
Men’s Soccer
Duke 3, Georgia State 0: Junior Sebastien Ibeagha registered two goals to lead the Blue Devils at Koskinen Stadium. Sophomore Nick Palodichuk provided the game-winner for the Blue Devils.
The shutout was Duke’s (2-3-0) first of the season.
North Carolina: Senior forward Martin Murphy has been named the ACC Player of the Week following his role in the Tar Heels conference-opening win over Virginia Tech. It is the second consecutive week Murphy has claimed the honor.
The Cary native scored both goals in a 2-0 shutout of the Hokies.
Women’s Soccer
North Carolina: Freshman forward Summer Green has been named the ACC Player of the Week, the conference announced.
Green was named the MVP of the Duke Classic following a pair of two-goal games to help the Tar Heels defeat Marquette and San Diego.
Green leads UNC with five goals and two assists.
Volleyball
Peace 3, Saint Andrews 1: The Pacers won 25-12, 28-26, 21-25, 25-13 to improve to 4-5 on the season.
N.C. State3, UNC Wilmington 2: Facing match point on its home court, the Wolfpack rallied to beat the Seahawks 21-25, 22-25, 26-24, 25-16, 15-11.
