SELMA — A Selma woman was found dead in the Little River after she had been reported missing by her brother about 9 a.m. Saturday.

Kandice Gillard, 24, was camping with her brother by the Little River off of Old Beulah Road in Selma to celebrate his birthday.

Her brother reported her missing to the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office after he said he woke up to find that she wasn’t there.

The sheriff’s office search and rescue team found Gillard’s body about 100 yards downstream.

The death is still under investigation and no cause of death has been given.
