Duke senior goalkeeper James Belshaw has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Week following a pair of shutouts in a 2-0 week for the Blue Devils.
Not only did Belshaw help the Blue Devils to earn shutouts versus Georgia State (3-0) and Clemson (2-0), but he iced the win over the Tigers with a penalty kick goal in the 71st minute.
Field Hockey
UNC: Sophomore Charlotte Craddock has been honored as the Atlantic Coast Conference Field Hockey Player of the Week after she scored three goals in the Tar Heels’ two wins.
On Friday against No. 8 Old Dominion, she scored the third goal in UNC’s 3-2 win.
Golf
ECU: The East Carolina women’s golf team finished fourth in the 15-team field at the season-opening Dale McNamara Invitational Tuesday afternoon at the par-72 Golf Club of Oklahoma.
The Pirates (11-3) carded a final round 297 for a two-day total of 881, which tied for the seventh-lowest team score in school history.
Campbell: Amanjyot Singh tied for 31st on the individual leader board and Campbell wrapped up play Tuesday in the Golfweek Conference Challenge with a 15th-place team finish.
A junior from Rajasthan, India, Singh shot 79-73-73—225 to complete the 54-hole event at 9-over-par. He finished with 37 pars, tied for sixth in the field, and tied for ninth in par-4 scoring (plus-3).
Basketball
Shaw: Shaw University released its 2012-2013 women’s basketball schedule. The defending NCAA Division II national champions will face Division I champion Baylor in an exhibition .
The Lady Bears open their schedule with two exhibitions against Division I opponents. On October 30, they travel to Durham to take on nationally ranked #3 Duke, then travel to Waco, Tex., to take on #1 Baylor and the 2011-2012 Player of the Year Brittney Griner on November 5. This is the first time that the Division I national champion will face the Division II national champion.
Duke: The 2012-13 preseason “Wade Watch” list of candidates for the State Farm Wade Trophy were released on Tuesday with Duke junior Chelsea Gray and sophomore Elizabeth Williams named to the 25-member list for the prestigious award.
The Blue Devils are one of only five squads – Duke, Baylor, Kansas, Nebraska and Penn State – with two players on the list, while Connecticut owns three.
