CARY — A freight train has partially jumped the rails in western Cary, forcing police to close Carpenter Unchurch Road between Green Hope High School and Heritage Pines Drive.
Three cars of a CSX train partially left the rails, the company told the town at about 1:30 p.m.
The cars did not flip, and the incident has not resulted in any injuries or chemical spills, said Cary police Capt. Randall Rhyne. He didn’t yet know why or how the cars derailed.
Nearby Carpenter Upchurch Road is closed to allow CSX to get the railcars back on the tracks. The company may not finish the work until Thursday morning, according to the town.
