Behind stout defense, N.C. State defeated Wake Forest 3-0 (20-25, 16-25, 16-25) in ACC volleyball action Saturday at Reynold Coliseum
N.C. State (12-1, 2-0) led early in the match, jumping out to a 6-3 advantage before Wake Forest (6-6, 0-1) came back to take a 7-6 lead.
Later in the set, N.C. State went on a 9-1 run, eventually winning the set 25-20.
Wake Forest jumped out to a 3-1 lead to start the second set, the teams kept it close for the next several points, but N.C. State would eventually pushing the lead to 19-10. The Wolfpack went on to win the set 25-16 to take a two set advantage.
The Deacons took another early lead to start the third set, going up 3-0. N.C. State retook the lead though, holding back the Demon Deacons attack. The Wolfpack won the set 25-16 to sweep the match 3-0.
Nikki Glass had 11 kills to lead the N.C. State while Dariyan Hopper tallied nine. Megan Cyr lead the team with 31 assists. Alston Kearns had 15 digs and Glass added 14.
Saint Augustine’s: Julieesa Thomas was named the CIAA rookie of the week. Thomas, a freshman setter, recorded team highs in assists (57) and service aces (10) as the Lady Falcons went 3-0 at CIAA Round-Up I las weekend at Lincoln. On the season, Thomas leads the Falcons in assists (123), and service aces (17).
