Undefeated Wake Forest-Rolesville took advantage of good field position and Enloe mistakes to claim a 35-0 Cap Eigh 4-A win over Enloe on Friday night.

“Anytime your playing the game of football, the game is about field position. Anytime you can’t get out of your own 20 yard-line, you’re going to have problems. Field position is the name of the game,” said Enloe coach Mike Massey

Wake Forest grabbed a 6-0 lead on a 10-yard touchdown run by Bryce Love and picked up a safety.The Cougars special teams blocked two punts for touchdowns with Chris Leonard and Kyle Montgomery recovering for touchdowns..

With his team up 21-0 at halftime, Wake Forest coach Reggie Lucas praised his team for its diverse first-half scoring.

“I told them it was good to see we were able to score in different areas," he said. “We needed those points because those guys were playing us tough on defense.”

Wake Forest’s offense improved in the second half as they managed to double their first half output, scoring two touchdowns and continuing to grind away on the ground. Love would outgain Enloe by himself, running for 108 yards on 12 carries.

But both coaches acknowledged that the Wake Forest Rolesville defense ultimately controlled the game.

“That defense at Wake Forest is pretty signifcant, Massey said. “They were blitzing the A gaps all night, they brought (linebacker) Blake Williams and we tried to have an answer for it.”

Lucas had nothing but good words to say about his defensive unit after the game.

“Outside of the first play, I don’t know if we could’ve played any better,” Lucas said. “They did a really good job of penetrating, wrapping up and tacking. I’m really pleased with what we did defensively.”

At times, it seemed Wake Forest’s defensive lineman spent as much time in the Enloe backfield as they did in their three-point stance. As a former Wake Forest offensive line coach, Massy knew what Lucas’ defense was capable of.

“We knew they were going to come in and bring pressure, that’s what Reggie Lucas’ defense is all about," he said. “It’s about forcing the opposition to make mistakes. We were expecting and we prepared for it all week, but my hat’s off to them. They did a great job.”
