CHAPEL HILL — Florida State got a brilliant performance from Kelsey Wys as the top-ranked Seminoles defeated North Carolina 1-0 Thursday night in women’s soccer action.
Wys made seven saves to lead the Seminoles (10-0, 3-0 ACC) to their second straight victory over the Tar Heels (5-3-2, 1-2-1) at Fetzer Field. A goal by Dagny Brynjarsdottir in the 61st minute proved to be the game-winner for the Seminoles, who also beat Carolina 1-0 in last year’s ACC tournament quarterfinals at Fetzer Field.
Duke 3, Clemson 0: Junior Laura Weinberg registered two goals on the night as the Blue Devils improved to 8-2-1 overall and 2-1-1 in ACC play.
The Blue Devils jumped on the Tigers (5-5-2, 0-4-0) early with six shots before freshman Cassie Pecht blasted a shot at Clemson goalkeeper Hunter Rittgers, who saved the attempt. Duke’s Weinberg was there though to grab the rebound and hit the back of the net for her 10th goal of the year.
Miami 2, N.C. State 0: The visiting Hurricanes scored twice in the final 10 minutes, 25 seconds of the match at Dail Soccer Field.
Ashley Finn and Jasime Paterson each scored their second goals of the season to give Miami (6-4-1, 1-2 ACC) its first ACC victory of the season. N.C. State falls to 5-7 (0-3 ACC)
