Two wounded in shooting outside Durham housing project

— Two people, one with a life-threatening head wound, were rushed to Duke University Hospital early Friday after they were shot in a parking lot at the McDougald Terrace public housing complex, police reported.

Latye Hawley, 18, of Durham was in critical condition at Duke University Hospital, police said.

Deja Garner, 20, of Durham was struck in the neck and was in serious condition, they said.

Police said they got a report of gunshots at 1:56 a.m. They found Hawley and Garner laying the parking lot of 47 Dayton St. in the complex, they said.

There was no information about suspects or if police had found any witnesses.

McDougald Terrace, Durham’s oldest public housing project, has 360 apartments, according to the Durham Housing Authority.
