Here’s the deal LSU: I’ve already apologized for the “Giglio” curse, so you kinda owe me an apology for Saturday’s loss at Florida.
I stood by you, LSU, when All-American Tyrann Mathieu got the gate in August and when other voters were dumping on you for barely beating Towson and Auburn. And this is how you repay me?
Actually, forget it, Tigers, you never had a chance. Eight years as an AP voter and eight times my preseason No. 1 has bitten the bullet.
With Florida State, Georgia and Texas going down as well, the top 10 is beyond recognition compared to last week. The Gators jump to No. 3, behind Alabama and Oregon. South Carolina, which made quick work of the Bulldogs, moves up to No. 4.
What to do with the one-loss teams? See, LSU, I can’t quit you. I have you as the top-rated one-loss team at No. 8, one spot ahead of unbeaten Ohio State. (That apology would sure make me feel better).
The Seminoles drop to No. 14, followed by the only other ranked ACC team, Clemson at No. 15. There are five new teams in the bottom five slots. I’m not sure any of them belong there, but as we learned Saturday, there are more surprises to come.
