No charges filed in Raleigh accident near school bus stop

Published: October 9, 2012

— Police say a 15-year-old girl was struck by a motorist Tuesday morning while waiting at a school bus stop in Southeast Raleigh.

Emergency workers transported Tavia Jay Moore to WakeMed in Raleigh for treatment of injuries not considered to be life-threatening, according to police spokesman Jim Sughrue.

The accident occurred at the intersection of Garner Road and Chris Street where Moore was waiting for a bus to take her to Southeast Raleigh High School. Police said a bus that was picking up students who attend Athens Drive High School was stopped at the intersection.

Moore mistakenly thought the bus was one she needed to board and crossed Garner Road to get to the vehicle. When she realized it was not her bus she started back across Garner Road and was struck by a motorist traveling north.

Charges were not filed immediately Tuesday, but police are continuing their investigation of the incident, Sughrue said.
