Body found on side of Chatham County road

The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office closed Chicken Bridge Road on Wednesday morning in the northern part of the county after a body was found on the side of the road.

A passing motorist reported the body to the sheriff’s office at 7:20 a.m., according to sheriff’s office spokesman Gary Blankenship. He did not provide additional information about the body.

Investigators from the sheriff’s office as well as the State Bureau of Investigation are investigating. All traffic is being diverted around Chicken Bridge by Crawford Dairy Road.

The sheriff’s office does not believe any residents in the area are in any danger.

Anyone who saw any vehicles parked on the east side of Chicken Bridge Road before 7:15 am is asked to contact Capt. Charles Gardner of the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office at 919-545-8129.
