The Chatham County Sheriffs Office closed Chicken Bridge Road on Wednesday morning in the northern part of the county after a body was found on the side of the road.
A passing motorist reported the body to the sheriffs office at 7:20 a.m., according to sheriffs office spokesman Gary Blankenship. He did not provide additional information about the body.
Investigators from the sheriffs office as well as the State Bureau of Investigation are investigating. All traffic is being diverted around Chicken Bridge by Crawford Dairy Road.
The sheriffs office does not believe any residents in the area are in any danger.
