ECU has a good chance to move to 3-1 in conference play when it welcomes lowly Memphis to Greenville on Saturday.
Memphis ranks 88th or worse nationally in points, points allowed, passing yards and rushing yards. The Tigers picked up their first victory last week – 14-10 over one-win Rice.
The Pirates can’t wait to erase the disappointment from their 40-20 loss at Central Florida in which they wasted a 14-0 first-quarter lead.
UCF (3-2, 1-0) will try to maintain its East Division lead and take another step toward a conference championship showdown against likely West Division power Tulsa. The Knights don’t figure to get much resistance Saturday against rebuilding Southern Miss, which is 0-5 and has been outscored by an average of 35.2-16.4.
If Memphis and UAB lose Saturday, 6 of the league’s 12 teams will have at least five losses.
