Church musician charged with statutory rape

— Police have arrested a church musician and charged him with statutory rape.

John Earl Wright II, of 2109 Old Rosebud Drive, Knightdale, was arrested Thursday afternoon.

According to a warrant filed at the Wake County jail, he worked as a musician at Body of Christ Church.

Wright, 31, is charged with one count of statutory rape of a person older than or equal to 6 years old. The warrant does not state the gender or exact age of the victim.

Wright also has been charged with two misdemeanor counts of giving alcohol to a minor.

He was being held in the Wake County jail Thursday evening, his bail set at $501,000. He is scheduled to appear in court Friday.
