Thomas Derussell Knight

— A town resident was being held Monday on a $750,000 bond at the Wake County Jail to face charges of first-degree rape, first-degree sexual assault, first-degree kidnapping, assault on a female and robbery in connection with an attack that police said occurred Friday night.

They took Thomas Derussell Knight, 38, of 959 Terra Mobile Estates into custody about 10 p.m. Friday and charged him in a warrant issued early Saturday.

Police said Knight punched the woman in the mouth with his fist and took her cell phone so she could not contact police.

They said he then raped her. The first-degree kidnapping charge is filed means the victim was seriously injured, sexually assaulted or not released in a safe place.

Police said the woman was able to escape her house and ran to a neighbor’s home for help.

In addition to the rape and assault charges, Knight was accused of interfering with emergency communications for keeping the woman from calling police, officers said in the warrant.
