Wake women jump out early to beat N.C. State

— No. 13 Wake Forest held on for a 4-2 win over N.C. State at Spry Stadium.

N.C. State (5-12, 0-8 ACC) received goals from Jennie Krauser and Shannon Colligan.

Wake Forest (11-3-3, 5-2-1 ACC) scored twice in the first 18 minutes to jump out in front early, including Katie Stengel’s goal in the fourth minute.

Elsewhere

Winthrop 4, Presbyterian 0: The Presbyterian College dropped a Big South Conference match to the Eagles 4-0.

Winthrop (8-6-2, 5-2-2 Big South) scored all four goals in the first half to get past Presbyterian (2-14-0, 2-7-0).

The Eagles’ Grace Radler picked up three assists on the night.

Virginia Tech 3, Clemson 0: No. 22 Virginia Tech cruised past the Tigers, 3-0. Ashley Meier, Jordan Coburn and Ashley Manning connected on the Hokie goals.

The Hokies improved to 12-4-1 overall and 3-4-1 in the ACC, while the Tigers fell 5-10-2 and 0-9-0 in the conference.

UNC Asheville 3, Gardner-Webb 2: A 90th minute goal from UNC Asheville’s Kaitlyn Eckert sent the match into overtime, and a Paige Trent goal in the 99th minute further stunned the Runnin’ Bulldogs, as Gardner-Webb fell by a 3-2 margin on the road.

The last minute Asheville goals negated a comeback effort from a resilient Gardner-Webb squad playing down at the halftime break.

Coastal Carolina 2, Campbell 0: Freshman Fia Jonsson tallied a goal and an assist and junior Cisca Okoko scored the decisive goal as Coastal Carolina notched its fourth straight victory with a 2-0 decision over Campbell.
