Gamecocks fall, but decision not so simple

Editor’s note: Joe Giglio is one of 60 AP voters.

What to do with South Carolina? The Gamecocks got throttled on the road by No. 3 Florida, 44-14, on Saturday. This a week after going to No. 6 LSU and losing by two points, and two weeks after smashing No. 10 Georgia at home.

I moved South Carolina down six spots to No. 13; the AP poll dropped the Gamecocks from No. 9 to No. 17. I still have South Carolina in front of unbeaten Louisville, unbeaten Mississippi State and one-loss Clemson.

There’s no exact methodology to voting – it is, after all, an opinion poll. But I think at some point you have to ask yourself: Is Team A better than Team B? Just because South Carolina went 1-2, with road losses in two of the toughest venues in the country, doesn’t mean there are 16 teams better.

My top six remained unchanged, and it matches the AP order. Actually, for the first time since I can remember in eight years of voting, my top 10 is the same as the proper poll. Do you think more voters are starting to think like me or vice versa?

If it’s the former, as certain corners of the Internet can attest, that’s a scary proposition for my fellow voters.
