Green Hope (19-4 and the No. 2 seed from the Tri-Nine) eliminated PAC Six 4A Durham Jordan in four sets, while Wakefield beat Person 25-22, 25-7, 25-21.

Apex (18-4 and the Tri-Nine top seed) ousted Sanderson 25-21, 25-20, 25-14 and will be at home against Leesville (24-0 and the Cap 8 champion), which raced past Durham Riverside 25-18, 25-15, 25-22.

The third round matches are expected to be played Thursday night.

Garner falls: Garner, which dominated the Greater Neuse 4A, was ousted by Wilmington Ashley 25-18, 25-21, 22-25, 25-15 despite 10 kills by Kristen Powell. She finished the season with 401 kills.

“[Ashley] passed well, they hit well, they did the little things,” Garner coach Jason Boyette said. “If I could take our game [three] and put it in game one, it would be a different night. In game three we played exactly like we were supposed to. We played hard but didn’t do the little things you have to do in the playoffs. It just wasn’t our day.”
