BUIES CREEK — Led by individual medalist Kaylin Yost, Campbell won its own Fighting Camel Fall Classic intercollegiate women’s golf tournament at Keith Hills Country Club.
After holding a two-stroke lead through 36 holes, Campbell fired a 306 Tuesday to claim the team title (294-298-306—898) by 8 shots over runner-up Old Dominion (297-297-312—906). Longwood (309-296-313—918) was third and Cal State Fullerton was fourth (312-309-304—925) in the 12-school event.
Yost finished the 54-hole tournament at one-over-par 217 (73-69-75) to gain medalist honors by three strokes over Se Ri Lee of Cal State Fullerton (74-75-71—220).
Elon: The Phoenix shot a final round 294 on its way to a seventh-place showing at the Old Dominion/Outerbanks Collegiate with a 19-over 883 (299-290-294) tournament score.
Stuart Kaufman (2-under) finished in a tie for sixth in the field of 94 players. Georgia Southern won the tournament at 10-under.
Campbell: Ricki Gaez has been named Big South men’s attacking player of the week. Gaez, a sophomore, scored twice — both game-winners – and registered one assist to lead the Camels to a 2-0 conference record last week.
Swimming & Diving
North Carolina: Junior Stephanie Peacock has been named the ACC female Swimmer of the Week.
Peacock led North Carolina to a second place finish in the SMU Classic, posting a meet record in the 500 freestyle.
East Carolina: Freshman Bailie Monahan and senior Kirstie Russell have been named Conference USA Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively. Monahan swept the butterfly events during the Pirates’ dual meet victory over Davidson. Russell won the three-meter diving competition.
Shaw: The Metropolitan N.Y. Football Writers Association named Darnell Evans its Division II Specialty Player of the Week in recognition for his performance in Shaw’s 35-20 loss to Johnson C. Smith last Saturday. Evans scored two of Shaw’s three touchdowns, including a 90-yard kickoff return.
