Duke leaves Elon with scoreless tie in men's soccer

— Duke and Elon battled to a 0-0 tie at Rudd Field Tuesday in nonconference men’s soccer action.

The Blue Devils had eight shots, including one off the crossbar, in the double overtime draw.

Duke moves to 7-7-2 overall for the year, while the Phoenix moved to 12-4-3.

Duke held an 8-7 advantage in shots and won the corner kick battle 4-0. The Blue Devils held Thomas to one shot overall in 89 minutes of action.

Volleyball

Peace 3, Converse 1: The Pacers concluded their regular season with a 23-25, 25-19, 25-22, 25-18 win over the Valkyries on Senior Night at the Hermann Center in Raleigh.

It was the second match of the night for the Valkyries, who began the night by dropping a four-set game to the Meredith Avenging Angels.

Brooke Norris, the team’s only senior, led Peace with 34 assists and she also contributed 6 kills and 12 digs in the winning effort.

Lauren Naugle had 13 kills, 5 aces and 17 digs. Connor Davis added 12 kills and 17 digs.

Meredith 3, Converse 1: The Avenging Angels defeated the Valkyries 25-23, 11-25, 25-18, 25-16 to close out the regular season. Meredith’s Molly Markley led all players with 14 kills.

Golf

East Carolina: Freshman Nicoline Engstroem Skaug carded a 2-over 74 in the final round of the Alamo Invitational women’s golf tournament at San Antonio to finish in a five-way tie for fifth place.

As a team, the Pirates finished in ninth place at the three-day, 54-hole event, which was held at the par-72, 6,428 yard Briggs Ranch Golf Course.

Emily Eng scored a team-low 73 Tuesday.

North Carolina: The Tar Heel’s men’s golf team fired a 5-over-par 289 in the final round of the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate at Dallas to finish at 9-over 861 in 12th place.

Senior Patrick Barrett, from Pinehurst, led the Tar Heels on Tuesday with a 1-under 70.

Barrett finished with an even par 213 for the tournament total to tie for 21st place individually.

Swimming & Diving

North Carolina: Freshman Logan Heck has been named the ACC male Swimmer of the Week.

Field Hockey

North Carolina: Sophomore forward Charlotte Craddock has been named the ACC Co-Player of the Week.
