RALEIGH — N.C. State University and Lonnie Poole Golf Course have been selected to host the NCAA regional championships in 2014 and 2015.
In 2014, it will be one of six host sites for the NCAA men’s golf regional championship, while in 2015 it will be the site of the East Regional competition of the NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Championship.
Women’s Basketball
North Carolina 90, Wingate 52: Tierra Ruffin-Pratt finished with 17 points and seven assists and host North Carolina closed out the exhibition portion of its schedule with a win over Wingate Thursday night. The Tar Heels led just 40-34 at the break but opened the second half on a 19-2 run to turn it into a rout.
Waltiea Rolle added 17 points to go with eight rebounds and five blocks for UNC, which will open the 2012-13 regular season Nov. 9 against Davidson.
Women’s Soccer
Duke: The ACC released the 2012 All-ACC women’s soccer teams and four Blue Devils are on the squad, including ACC Freshman of the Year Cassie Pecht.
Laura Weinberg made the first team, while Natasha Anasi, Kim DeCesare and Pecht were named to the second team. Pecht was also listed on the All-ACC Freshman team and became just the third Blue Devil to be named ACC Freshman of the Year.
Field Hockey
Maryland 2, Duke 1: Despite an equalizing goal in the 42nd minute by junior Devon Gagliardi, the No. 22 Duke Blue Devils (7-11, 0-5) fell to reigning defending national champion Maryland 2-1 in the quarterfinals of the ACC Tournament.
The Terps snatched the lead in the 53rd minute off a shot from junior Jill Witmer.
Maryland had an edge in shots, 14-7, and penalty corners, 7-4.
Track and Field
Saint Augustine’s: The Falcons have been selected to host the 2014 NCAA Division II Outdoor Men’s and Women’s Track & Field Championships. The event will take place May 22-24 at the St. Augustine’s University Stadium in the George Williams Athletic Complex.
The national championships will allow St. Augustine’s University to showcase one of the top NCAA Division II track and field facilities in the nation. Saint Aug’s has hosted the national championships two other times, but both took place at Paul Derr Track on the campus of N.C. State in 1994 and 2000.
