C-USA chatter

ECU’s noon game against Houston highlights East vs. West week in the C-USA.

The Pirates (5-4, 4-1) again need one victory to become bowl eligible. A victory over Houston (4-4, 3-1) also would keep ECU within reach of East-leading Central Florida.

The Knights (6-2, 4-0) have their own challenge Saturday when they face SMU (4-4, 3-1).

SMU and Houston are running out of games in their quest to become bowl eligible. Both also need a victory to stay close to South Division leader Tulsa (7-1, 5-0).

The Golden Hurricane is receiving votes in the AP poll, and it could receive quite a few more if it knocks off the SEC’s Arkansas on the road Saturday afternoon.

Marshall (3-5, 2-2) is the only other league team with a realistic chance to become bowl eligible. The Thundering Herd can take a step in that direction with a victory over Memphis (1-7, 1-3).
