John M. Smith: Poker and plots

Poker and plots

The writer of the Oct. 31 letter “Plotted to destroy” hit the nail on the head! I generally consider myself a conservative, but when the Republicans announced that their primary objective was to keep President Obama from having a second term, they lost my support. And they did this barely after he had taken the oath of office!

I thought their primary objective was to do the work of the people who elected them to office, make laws, reduce the deficit, provide for the people and generally make the country better. All they have done the past four years is split it apart.

In poker, you play the hand you’re dealt and play the cards, with a little give and take, the best you can. It appears the Republicans folded before the game even started.
