Suspect in 1999 killing returned to Raleigh

— A man charged in a Christmas 1999 slaying in Raleigh was booked into the Wake County Detention Center on Monday after his arrest 10 days ago by U.S. Customs and Border Patrol agents.

Alfonso Montaya Hernandez, 59, is charged with murder for the killing of Pedro Castillo Gallegos.

Federal agents arrested him in North Dakota last week.

He is being held without bond.

Gallegos had been stabbed and cut when police arrived at 208 Colleton Road at about 4:30 that morning.
