Elon mens soccer senior midfielder Gabe Latigue was named to the Topdrawersoccer.com National Team of the Week.
Latigue helped Elon win its second consecutive Southern Conference mens soccer championship and was named the tournaments most outstanding player.
Elon will face Coastal Carolina on Thursday in the first round of the NCAA tournament.
Volleyball
Duke: Freshman middle blocker Elizabeth Campbell is the ACC Volleyball Player of the Week.
Campbell had a strong weekend for the Blue Devils against No. 13 Florida State and Miami, hitting over .300 on 86 attempts.
The Parker, Colo., native hit .333 against Miami on 57 attempts.
Elon: Ali Deatsch was named the Southern Conferences Defensive Player of the Week.
Deatsch led the defensive effort in Elons two wins last week with 47 digs, averaging 6.71 per set, and four aces.
Saint Augustines: The volleyball team ended the regular season with a 3-0 loss to Fayetteville State.
Despite the loss, the Lady Falcons (6-21 overall, 6-10 CIAA, 3-7 Southern Division) are headed to the CIAA tournament this weekend as the fourth seed out of the Southern Division.
Basketball
North Carolina: Freshman forward Xylina McDaniel earned the first 2012-13 ACC womens basketball rookie of the week honor.
She averaged 12.5 points and 8.5 rebounds in her first two collegiate games, and led the Tar Heels with 18 points and 12 rebounds for her first career double-double in a 70-59 season-opening win over Davidson in the opening round of the Preseason WNIT.
N.C. State: Rodney Purvis was named rookie of the week in mens basketball. In his first collegiate game, he tied for the team scoring lead with 16 points in a 97-59 win over visiting Miami (Ohio).
Track & Field
Shaw: Assistant track and field and cross country coach Reava Potter recently received her Level 1 Coaching Certification from USA Track and Field.
Potter just completed her first cross country season with the Bears. She is a 2010 graduate of Temple University.
Other
Raleigh Sports Club: The Raleigh Sports Club will meet Wednesday from noon to 1 p.m. at Highland United Methodist Church. Former ECU and NFL player Tony Collins will be the guest speaker. Caroline Garrett, volleyball/track player at St. Davids School, will be honored as the Student Athlete of the Week.
