WAKE FOREST — A Raleigh driver died in a head-on crash on N.C. 96 near Old Pearce Road after his Mustang crossed the center line and ran head-on into an SUV, the Highway Patrol said Wednesday.

Mario Camacho Gonsalez, 43, of Watkins Town Road, was headed east when his car crashed into the westbound vehicle about 3 p.m. Tuesday, troopers reported.

The accident closed N.C. 96 for a time while authorities cleared the accident scene.

The crash was near the place where three teenagers died in a one-vehicle crash in June 2011.
