Bruno Toffolo: Onward, upward

Onward, upward

During the presidential campaign, much was made of Mitt Romney’s statement regarding the 47 percent and how that disenfranchised many voters. President Obama won his re-election with about 51 percent of the popular vote.

While Obama has been given a second chance to be a part of fixing the many problems facing America today, I certainly don’t see a “mandate” to follow what many see as the wrong direction for our country. He and Congress need to tread lightly, so as not to disenfranchise the 49 percent who didn’t vote for him.

It’s time to come together and collaboratively arrive at solutions that cover a much larger population base. I’m confident the USA has the smarts to accomplish this. Let’s not let politics get in the way.
