Green Hope defeats Charlotte Myers Park 2-0 to repeat as the state 4A soccer champ

Green Hope High, with a new coach and essentially and entirely new lineup, repeated as the N.C. High School Athletic Association 4A boys soccer champion on Saturday with a 2-0 victory over Charlotte Myers Park at N.C. State’s Dail Soccer Complex.

Sam Bissett, the Falcons’ keeper, was chosen at the most valuable player in the game after preserving the shutout..

Green Hope got the only goal it needed when Josh Kennedy scored in the 66th minute of play. He took a pass in the box and fired a shot at the far post.

Zack Compton added a final goal with 1:51 left.

Green Hope (24-2) defeated Myers Park (20-4-1) in last year’s finals 2-1 in overtime.

Green Hope graduated 13 seniors last year and returned only four players from the championship team. Veteran coach Andrew Chadwick, ESPN’s national coach of the year, resigned after the title game and was replaced by Richard Huxford.
