Paula Broadwell returns to Charlotte home

Published: November 19, 2012

Paula Broadwell, the Charlotte woman involved in the scandal that led to the resignation of David Petraeus as CIA director, returned to her Dilworth home Sunday afternoon with her two children and her husband, Scott. It was the first time they’d been home since the scandal broke more than a week ago.

Neither would take questions from reporters, but Dr. Scott Broadwell said, “At some point I’ll have a statement for you, but not yet.”

Paula Broadwell immediately went inside the house with the children, while Scott Broadwell unloaded groceries and suitcases from a Jeep Grand Cherokee. When Scott Broadwell finished unloading, he turned to the media and said, “See you guys tomorrow.”

Later, around a dozen neighbors and friends came over the Broadwell house, some bringing dinner.

“They’re doing really as well as can be expected,” said Liz Burgess, a neighbor. “They just let us have the opportunity to be there for them.”

A family acquaintance who did not want to be named said Paula Broadwell was overwhelmed by the outpouring of support from friends and is looking forward to returning to a normal life. Staff writer Mark Washburn contributed.
