Birthday 'gifts' to Raleigh man, woman are drug charges

RALEIGH Two people spent their birthdays facing felony drug charges after their arrests by police.

One suspect was charged two days before her 20th birthday with possessing 4 pounds of marijuana, and the other was scheduled for a court appearance on his 33rd on Monday on charges he had four different drugs.

Friday night, Raleigh police arrested Michelle Cateese Corey-Brown, then 19, of 2130 Wolftech Lane. She turned 20 on Sunday, according to information in an arrest warrant.

Police charged her with possession with intent to sell or deliver the drug and with maintaining a Dodge Charger as a place to keep it.

She had been freed by Monday morning on a $10,000 bond, jail records showed.

The same night, police charged Marcus Nathaniel Thomas, then 32, at his apartment at 2932 Ligon St.

According to an arrest warrant, police found 30 small plastic bags containing marijuana, 14 containing crack cocaine, two ecstasy pills, five Tramadol pills, cigar-wrapping paper, two scales and a grinder.

They charged Thomas with possession with intent to sell or distribute marijuana, possession with intent to sell or distribute cocaine, possession of methamphetamine, simple possession of a regulated drug, possession of drug paraphernalia and maintaining a residence to keep or sell drugs.

Thomas was being held on a $40,000 bond for his birthday court appearance.
