Brad Barefoot: Union take-down

Union take-down

Well, gone are the Twinkies, Wonder and Merita breads we knew. Why? Because the labor unions feel nothing is better than having a good job. Yet this one concession would have been simple – let our delivery trucks deliver Wonder Bread and Hostess Twinkies on the same truck to cut vehicle-related costs. Union said nope, nada, not gonna happen. Well, I think today over 18,000 people out of work might disagree with the way this played out.

The first thing that employees and labor unions need to understand is that there is only so much money to go around. They also need to understand that (and don’t faint) they deserve a profit, a healthy profit. They don’t go into business just to break even. From the top down (investors included) there is someone every payday looking for their money. And yes, profit makes that miracle happen every day.

And think about this: Hostess has to toss out all those baked goods that didn’t sell by the expiration date on the bag. That costs money. Congrats, union, you’ve taken down another business.
