GOP contrasts
Thanks to James Leloudis for contrasting the N.C. Republican Party that now will control our state’s government with the far more progressive Republican Party that last controlled our state in the 1890s (“Now there was a GOP,” Nov. 14 Point of View article). That the Nov. 6 winners would cast their Election Day victories in the context of such dramatic historic differences is almost laughable.
Perhaps today’s North Carolina Republicans should rename their party the Christian Conservatives, or the Tea Party. I don’t suggest these titles as negative connotations, but simply as more realistic expressions of our state’s political landscape in 2012.
