Beth Hardin: Bag it

Bag it

Raleigh’s new window for taking out and bringing in garbage carts from the curb is going too far. As stated in a recent N&O article, the earliest the cart can go to the curb is sundown the day before pickup. This just puts a ridiculous hardship on our older citizens like my elderly neighbor whose son comes by after work each week to put out her carts. Will he have to make a special trip after sundown now so that she doesn’t get a fine?

There is no reason that a person should be out in the dark struggling with a cart when noon is much more reasonable and safe. If people are leaving their carts out too long, then deal with it from the enforcement side. Don’t change the time and make even more people out of compliance!

I hope the City Council will rethink this before final approval.
