Wesley Frazier, one of the top high school cross country runners in the country, won the Nike Cross Nationals Southeast Regional Saturday at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary.

Frazier, who did not run for Ravenscroft this year, ran the course in a time of 17 minutes, 17 seconds more than eight seconds before the next finisher.

The win qualified her for the Nike Cross Nationals in Portland, Ore., this Saturday.

Cardinal Gibbons’ Mary Grace Doggett finished 11th with a time of 17 minutes, 56.50 seconds, followed by teammate Sophie Ebihara at 18 minutes, 4 seconds for 14th place. Gibbons placed seventh among teams.

On the boys’ side, Broughton’s William Roberson placed 12th with a time of 15 minutes, 36 seconds. His Capital Distance team, which featured several of his Broughton teammates, finished ninth among boys’ teams.

The Broughton boys’ team previously advanced to the national meet in 2008.
