Wendell man killed in 100 mph crash in Raleigh

Published: December 3, 2012

A Wendell man was killed in a car accident early Saturday morning when he lost control of his car and slammed into a tree, according to Raleigh police.

Alford Brown, 47, of Wendell, was driving more than 100 miles per hour along Six Forks Road approaching Wake Forest Road, according to a police report. The posted speed limit there is 35.

He lost control of the car after crossing the intersection — before he could reach Hilmer Drive — and hit a tree on the sidewalk.

Brown was ejected from the car on impact. He was transported to Wake Medical Center in Raleigh, where he died of his injuries.

Police are not sure whether or not Brown was intoxicated. Department spokesman Jim Sughrue said police are waiting on the results of toxicology tests taken during the autopsy.
