Students selected to perform during bowl's halftime show

Four local musicians have been chosen for the 2013 U.S. Army All-American Bowl Marching Band.

Among the 125 high-school seniors performing in the halftime show of the All-American Bowl will be:

•  Brian Holtshouser of Raleigh, a tenor sax player at Athens Drive High School.

•  Samantha Gonzalez of Smithfield, a color guard member at Smithfield-Selma High School.

•  Cliff Johnson of Smithfield, a trumpet player at Smithfield-Selma High School.

•  Tucker Vaeth of Clayton, a marimba player at Clayton High School.

Each student was honored recently with a ceremony at his or her school to announce the selection to the prestigious ensemble, which attracts applications from thousands of applicants nationwide.

The students will spend five days in San Antonio rehearsing then will perform during the bowl game on Jan. 5. The game starts at 1 p.m. and will be televised on NBC.
