DURHAM — A Durham middle school student died Monday night, a week after her bicycle collided with a pickup truck.
Kassie Graves, 12, died as a result of her injuries. The news was shared Tuesday with students and staff at Githens Middle School, where Kassie was in the seventh grade.
Kassie was riding a bike near the entrance to the Bridges of Southpoint apartment complex on Dec. 10 when she hit the side of the truck traveling north on N.C. 751 near Calibre Park Drive. Police said the girl ran a stop sign and that no charges were anticipated against the driver of the pickup.
The Githens PTA sent a tweet Tuesday saying the school was grieving: “Kassie was a beloved student, musician and daughter. Her absence will be deeply felt by all.”
