The best bluegrass picks, Dec. 21

CorrespondentDecember 20, 2012

Lorraine Jordan and the Carolina Road Band will play Thursday night at the Hope Café in Garner.

  • Other highlights: • Former Red Clay Rambler and current Robin and Linda Williams and Their Fine Group bassist Jim Watson will present his annual Christmas show tonight at the Cave in Chapel Hill and at The Depot in Hillsborough on Sunday.

Lorraine Jordan and Carolina Road deliver hard-driving, melodic bluegrass in the spirit of the pioneering bands of the 1950s. Behind the leadership and vision of Garner’s Lorraine Jordan (bluegrass music’s unofficial “Lady of Tradition”), the band has earned acclaim for its current CD, the appropriately titled “Back to My Roots.” The 12-track CD features the Tom T. and Dixie Hall song, “A Light in the Window Again,” which owned the top of the bluegrass chart for two consecutive weeks. Tonight, the band will play selections from “Roots” at Quail Ridge Books and Music.
